The Certified in Plumbing Design (CPD) program, administered by the American Society of Plumbing Engineers (ASPE), is the only international credential program in the plumbing engineering field, and it provides formal recognition of outstanding professionals with advanced skills in the design and specification of plumbing systems. The 2018 CPD Exam is being held on April 5 and 6, and registration is now open at aspe.org/CPDExam.

Why do the plumbing industry’s elite choose to earn and maintain the CPD credential? CPDs are considered to have the highest level of skills in the design and specification of plumbing systems, and employers and clients immediately recognize a designer’s achievements when they see the CPD designation after the designer’s name. “The CPD reflects competency in plumbing design and professionalism, and sets one apart from others in the industry, whether it is competing for a project with an owner, architect, or contractor, or competing for promotions in your employment,” says Bradley T. Gettel, CPD, GPD, LEED AP, a Principal at MEC Inc. in Denver.

Sarah A. Balz, PE, CPD, GPD, LEED AP, a Piping Engineer at Affiliated Engineers in Madison, Wisconsin agrees. “The CPD certification will add value to your resume and your company,” she says.

Mokena, Ill. — In March 2018, ASSE International will launch the first issue of its new magazine: Working Pressure. The quarterly magazine will be distributed in print to ASSE International members and online to the public and ASSE-certified professionals at www.workingpressuremag.com. Working Pressure magazine replaces Backflow Prevention & Plumbing Standards (BPPS) magazine, which was discontinued in December 2017. Working Pressure will cover ASSE International’s full demographic range, which includes backflow prevention, plumbing/mechanical, water quality, HVAC, fire protection, medical gas, and water utility.

Since deciding to move to a quarterly publication and online news site, ASSE International has been surveying readers and members to gain a clearer understanding of who they are, which segments of the industry they work in, and what they want to read. ASSE has learned a great deal, and the new magazine will be tailored accordingly. Some of the regular content will include columns for product standards, professional qualifications standards, government and code updates, backflow industry updates and opinions, new products, engineering perspectives, industry news, membership news, product repair, and quarterly quizzes. Working Pressure’s multiple platforms – magazine, website, and email—will provide a balance of education and entertainment to its dedicated readers.

Working Pressure will also include one to three feature articles per issue determined by what’s happening in the industry. These articles will be longer than columns and will dive in a bit deeper. Features will include issues affecting the industry, implementation of technology, plumbing system design, and contractor tips, to name a few. Working Pressure’s mission is to give readers a working knowledge of what’s happening in our widespread and diverse industry.

The quarterly issues of Working Pressure magazine will cover January-March (published in March), April-June (published in June), July-September (published in September), and October-December (published in December). The first issue’s content will be posted to www.workingpressuremag.com in March, but in the meantime, the website will feature current industry news and archived content from 2017.

Working Pressure magazine will be mailed to ASSE International members, distributed digitally via email to ASSE-certified professionals, ASSE members, and extra subscribers, and posted online at www.workingpressuremag.com. With a beginning subscriber list of more than 17,500, ASSE International intends to expand circulation to at least 22,000 readers in the United States and abroad by the end of 2018.
