Uponor Fire Safety Design Services Receives Minnesota License for Standalone Designs

Uponor North America Fire Safety Design Services recently obtained a Fire Protection Contractor Design License for standalone fire sprinkler systems in the state of Minnesota, allowing the team to design both standalone as well as multipurpose plumbing and fire sprinkler systems for residential structures. This is in response to changes to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 13D Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems in One- and Two-Family Dwellings and Manufactured Homes, which now includes provisions for PEX in standalone fire sprinkler system designs.

Currently, Uponor’s Fire Safety team offers design services in 48 states and Canada and is licensed or holds certificates in 18 states that require licensing or certification.

“We anticipate Minnesota will require licensing for multipurpose systems in the near future as well,” says Dan Hubbard, supervisor, Fire Safety Design Services at Uponor, who took the state exam and is the responsible managing employee listed with the Minnesota Fire Protection Contractor Design License. “When that day comes, we will already be prepared, since the Minnesota licensing test includes information on multipurpose systems.”

The exam focuses on areas that include fire sprinkler maintenance, hydraulic calculations and other rules regarding installation of standalone fire sprinkler systems.
