The company’s occupational safety and health performance has resulted in more than 7,000,000 man-hours worked without a lost-time accident over an eight-year period.

A leading full-service mechanical contracting company in the Southwest, UMEC is a subsidiary of EMCOR Group, Inc. (NYSE: EME), a Fortune 500® leader in mechanical and electrical construction, industrial and energy infrastructure, and facilities services for a diverse range of businesses.

“Whereas University Mechanical & Engineering Contractors’ 7,000,000 man-hours worked without a lost–time accident over eight years, and its nine 1st place national safety awards from SMACNA since 2000 are very impressive, what’s most important and what drives those results is that every single person at UMEC rededicates him and herself each and every day to working safely and staying healthy,” stated Brad Thornton, President & CEO, UMEC.  “Sustaining this level of commitment requires constant vigilance.  We are thankful for the safety of our team, loyalty of our clients, and hope that we continue to be deserving of this recognition each and every year.”

UMEC’s commitment to safety is part of a multi-tiered, integrated approach that includes a Zero Accident program as well as a host of supporting initiatives, such as the “Be There For Life” program.  This EMCOR effort is designed to educate its employees and their families about the importance of safety through the use of workplace posters, company newsletters, mailings, and a number of other creative tactics intended to instill the conviction that every accident is preventable.
