Chicago – The year’s only technical education and professional development event designed exclusively for the plumbing engineering community—the ASPE Technical Symposium—will be held in Orlando, Florida, on September 19–22, 2013. The American Society of Plumbing Engineers (ASPE) is pleased to announce that registration is now open at aspe.org/2013tech.

This year’s ASPE Technical Symposium offers numerous ways for plumbing engineers and designers to enhance their skills and, subsequently, their career opportunities. The cornerstone of the event, the technical education program, is divided into five tracks to help attendees customize their training. Those tracks are Plumbing System Design 101, Sustainable Design, Healthcare Design, Advanced Plumbing Design, and BIM (Building Information Modeling). All sessions offer continuing education units (CEUs), and attendees can earn 15 hours of credit by attending the entire event.

ASPE also is providing attendees with two chances to earn designations to signify their design expertise. Before the Symposium, on September 18–19, ASPE and the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO) are hosting the Green Plumbing Design (GPD) workshop and exam. The GPD designation indicates professionals skilled in designing systems that conserve and protect water supplies and reduce energy consumption in the delivery and use of water. After the Symposium, on Sunday, September 22, the Certified in Plumbing Design (CPD) exam will be offered. Administered by ASPE, the CPD is the only international certification in the plumbing engineering field, recognizing outstanding professionals with advanced skills in the design and specification of plumbing systems. Those who register for the 2013 Technical Symposium and either the GPD workshop or the CPD exam will receive 25 percent off the workshop or exam registration fee.

In addition to the education program, special events will be held to help attendees network and learn about new developments in plumbing system design. The 2013 ASPE Technical Symposium kicks off on Thursday, September 19 with the evening Product Show, a comfortable venue where attendees can chat with product engineers and manufacturer reps, as well as representatives of other industry organizations, to discover new products, technologies, and initiatives. Roundtable discussions will be held during lunch on Friday, September 20 to give attendees the chance to delve into specific topics, share challenges and solutions, and further explore issues relevant to their careers. Attendees also can participate in a unique tour of the Walt Disney World laundry facility—one of the largest laundry facilities in the world—which cleans millions of pounds of towels, sheets, restaurant linens, uniforms, costumes, and other materials for the theme parks and resorts.

The 2013 ASPE Technical Symposium is being held at the Buena Vista Palace Hotel, which is located inside Walt Disney World, offering the perfect opportunity to combine professional development with a family vacation. ASPE has arranged a special discount on Walt Disney World tickets for attendees and their families, and the hotel offers a complementary shuttle to the theme parks.

Online registration for the 2013 ASPE Technical Symposium is now available at aspe.org/2013tech.
