The North American Technician Excellence (NATE) Technical Committee met August 17-19 at the NATE offices in Arlington, Va., to continue its work developing two new exams: a job-readiness certificate exam, and a certification level exam for less experienced support technicians. They are scheduled to be made available in early 2016 to help contractors hire better candidates and to provide technicians with a career development path as they learn and grow professionally.
Since 1997, NATE certification exams have tested real-world working knowledge of HVACR systems. They are developed by the NATE Technical Committee, comprised of industry experts who develop and oversee each exam’s Knowledge Areas of Technician Expertise, or KATEs. In 2015, the NATE Technical Committee was restructured to an active standing roster of 15 members with representation from various industry sectors, including contractors, educators, manufacturers, and working NATE-certified technicians.
