Ontario, Calif. — Pete DeMarco, senior vice president of Advocacy, Research and Program Development for the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO®) has been appointed facilitator/rapporteur of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Energy Efficiency
Standardization Coordination Collaborative (EESCC). DeMarco will lead the EESCC’s second phase following the publication of its landmark document, the Standardization Roadmap: Energy Efficiency in the Built Environment, in June.
The new phase will seek action on the roadmap’s recommendations and support the development and use of standardization accordingly. The EESCC will further conduct outreach to educate policymakers and other stakeholders on the use of standards to address energy and water efficiency needs, and will liaise with U.S. Technical Advisory Groups (TAGs) to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), according to ANSI.
“I’m honored to have been appointed by ANSI to help lead the EESCC’s efforts toward advancing energy and water efficiency in buildings through a more coordinated standardization approach,” DeMarco said. “Today, 20 percent of the energy supplied to our nation’s buildings is wasted through various construction related inefficiencies, many of which can be effectively addressed through standardization activities. By focusing on these efficiency gaps, we can save precious water and energy resources, reduce operational costs in buildings, reduce pollution and help mitigate the impacts of climate change.”
DeMarco previously co-chaired EESCC Working Group (WG) 1: Building Energy and Water Performance Assessment Standards, during the collaborative’s first phase.
A member-funded collaborative, the EESCC brings together experts from industry, federal agencies, standards and code developing organizations, energy and water efficiency-focused organizations, educational institutions, and other groups to shape the future of energy and water efficiency standardization. The EESCC provides a unique forum for stakeholders to stay informed, competitive, and connected on emerging issues related to
their business.
