Grundfos’ Adaptive Intelligence at ComforTech

Philadelphia — Grundfos will exhibit its high-efficiency, variable-speed circulators MAGNA3™ and ALPHA™ at ComforTech 2013, the national conference and product showcase for the ventilation, heating, air-conditioning, refrigerating, hydronics and plumbing industries, Sept. 18 to 20 in Philadelphia.

MAGNA3 and ALPHA offer much more than the ability to match pump speed to varying system loads. Both circulators feature a variable-speed electronically commutated motor (ECM) that uses a patented integrated logic algorithm, AUTOADAPT™, to learn the varying energy use patterns of an application over time, enabling the software to automatically determine the lowest possible operating efficiency point to meet ever-changing demand.

By continuously fine tuning power consumption and flow rates to meet the dynamic needs of the system, AUTOADAPT saves both energy and money for MAGNA3 and ALPHA users. The AUTOADAPT function is so powerful that eight of 10 installations can rely on this feature to automatically select the optimal setting with no additional human intervention. For the installer, that simply means plug and play and walk away.

“Our customers demand more, so we endeavor to deliver products that not just meet but exceed their needs,” said Terry Teach, director of Business Development for Grundfos North America. “AUTOADAPT is pump technology made smarter and simpler. Our customers really appreciate how easy it is to utilize this advanced technology.”

Easy to install, operate and maintain, the innovative MAGNA3 and ALPHA lines feature easy interfacing with building management systems. Wireless connectivity enables handheld pump control, monitoring and reporting capabilities by Grundfos GO, a mobile toolbox app available on Apple and Android devices.

MAGNA3
Boasting the highest energy-efficiency rating currently available for circulator pumps in North America, the MAGNA3 is at the absolute forefront of pump technology. It is an energy?optimized, variable-speed wet rotor circulator whose adaptive intelligence cuts power consumption by up to 85 percent when compared with conventional circulators.

MAGNA3 boasts the lowest energy consumption, most flexible range, easiest installation and most innovative functionalities on the market. From its improved hydraulics and rotor system to a built-in differential pressure sensor, every detail of MAGNA3 is designed to boost efficiency. It consumes 20 to 40 percent less energy than most models in the current MAGNA line, already a best-in-class energy-efficient circulator.
In addition, MAGNA3 handles temperatures as low as 15 degrees Fahrenheit, making it an even better choice for cooling as well as heating applications. Grundfos has dramatically improved the pump’s range by increasing the maximum head to almost 60 feet and the maximum flow to approximately 570 gallons per minute. And with more than 35 single and twin circulators in cast iron or stainless steel, MAGNA3 is the solution for a wide range of commercial and domestic application: heating, cooling and air-conditioning, domestic hot water, ground source heat pump, and solar heating.

MAGNA3 was released to the American and Canadian markets July 1, 2013.

ALPHA
In addition to the ultra-efficient MAGNA3, Grundfos will also showcase ALPHA, the most compact circulator available in its class. Designed for circulating liquids in light commercial and residential heating systems, it features integrated electronics and software, permanent magnet motor design and flexible power cord connection.

In addition, ALPHA features one-touch operation, real-time display and an integrated processor that provides the intelligence to measure and adapt to changing system conditions. ALPHA is available in cast-iron pump housings for closed systems or stainless steel housings for open or domestic hot-water systems.

ComforTech attendees can learn more about the MAGNA3 and ALPHA in Grundfos’ booth, #454.
