Prestigious award celebrates Peterman Brothers president and other ambitious entrepreneurs who are building a better world

Ernst & Young LLP (EY US) today announced that Chad Peterman, president of Peterman Brothers, a leading HVAC and plumbing company serving the greater Indianapolis area, was named an Entrepreneur Of The Year® 2023 Midwest Award winner.

The Entrepreneur Of The Year Awards program is one of the preeminent competitive awards for entrepreneurs and leaders of high-growth companies. Peterman was selected by an independent judging panel made up of previous award winners, leading CEOs, investors and other regional business leaders. The candidates were evaluated based on their demonstration of building long-term value through entrepreneurial spirit, purpose, growth and impact, among other core contributions and attributes.

“This award is a testament to the foundation my father built at Peterman and the drive he instilled in my brother and me to always keep reaching for the next level,” Peterman said. “I’ve dedicated my life to serving this company, my community and the skilled trades. To be named Entrepreneur Of The Year is just an incredible honor.”

The award is the latest accolade given to Peterman and his company in recent years. In May, the Indianapolis Business Journal recognized Peterman Brothers as one of the 25 fastest-growing companies in Indianapolis for a fourth consecutive year. In 2022, Peterman Brothers landed a place on the Inc. 5000 for the fourth year in a row, and in 2021, the company was named Dealer of the Year by Bryant Heating & Cooling Systems, a leading supplier of HVAC equipment with more than 40,000 dealers in North America.

Peterman is also the founder of Peterman Top Tech Academy, whose latest class graduated earlier this month. In addition, he’s the host and creator of the Can’t Stop the Growth podcast, which is geared toward empowering leaders and helping business owners thrive and grow their company.

“Peterman Brothers has come a long way since its inception in 1986,” Peterman said. “We’re continuing to seek ways to better serve the community, including creating the Peterman Cares program to help those less fortunate. I’ve been blessed with an amazing team that has driven our expansion to six locations, and winning this award says as much about my staff and support system as it does about me.”

For nearly four decades, EY US has honored entrepreneurs whose ambition, courage and ingenuity have driven their companies’ success, transformed their industries and made a positive impact on their communities. Since 1986, the Entrepreneur Of The Year program has recognized more than 11,000 US executives.

As a Midwest award winner, Peterman is now eligible for consideration for the Entrepreneur Of The Year 2023 National Awards. The National Award winners, including the Entrepreneur Of The Year National Overall Award winner, will be announced in November at the Strategic Growth Forum®, one of the nation’s most prestigious gatherings of high-growth, market-leading companies.

Peterman Brothers is available to help with any plumbing or cooling needs. For more information, call (260) 201-3070 or visit www.petermanhvac.com.

Industry veteran aims to showcase revolutionary ‘done for you pricing’ solution to growing list of partners

The New Flat Rate, the No. 1 price generating software for home service contractors, has officially announced the hiring of industry veteran John Ellis as the company’s new business development manager.

Formerly a consultant for The New Flat Rate, Ellis will now be focusing on building new partnerships for the company that will help provide members with an increasingly diverse and powerful set of tools to grow their business.

“John has always been a promoter of The New Flat Rate, so we are excited to have him join our team full-time,” said Danielle Putnam, president of The New Flat Rate. “John has always understood how important our software and training programs are for contractors. Now, he is helping us continue to evolve by building partnerships that create win-win scenarios for our members.

“Our ultimate goal has always been to help contractors grow their businesses while making their lives easier, and adding John’s wealth of experience to our team will help us continue to achieve that goal.”

Ellis has over 40 years in the HVAC industry including time spent in several industry unions. He has also served as a project manager on large projects at hotels, prisons, water treatment plants, and hospitals.

During his career, Ellis has held numerous certifications including building science, Indoor Air Quality, EPA Renovator, Residential & Commercial Air Balance, Commercial System Performance, Economizer Specialists, Level 1 Thermographer, and Quality Insulation Installation. Ellis has also been active in trade organizations such as the National Comfort Institute (NCI), the Institute of Heating & Air Conditioning Industries (IHACI) and the Indoor Air Quality Association (IAQA).

“The New Flat Rate and I have always had a great working relationship,” said Ellis. “For many years, I served as a consultant and service trainer because I believe in their solutions. As a contractor, I understand how difficult it can be to price services. The New Flat Rate solves that problem, and I am happy to be joining the team full-time to help them continue to grow and reach more contractors through new partnerships.”

The plumbing manufacturer welcomed members of its award-winning Ambassador Program to its global headquarters for a two-day immersive event, featuring hands-on training, installation competitions, product ideation and more.

Oatey Co., a leading manufacturer in the plumbing industry since 1916, hosted its third annual Ambassador Fest plumbing influencer event last week in Cleveland, Ohio. A key perk of its award-winning social media Ambassador Program, Ambassador Fest is two-day immersive event for Oatey Ambassadors, focused on providing Ambassadors with robust training and hands-on experiences to enhance and expand their skills as tradespeople and digital content creators.

This year’s Ambassador Fest attendees included Evan Berns, Colin Luttrell, Nick Parlet, Jeff Keller, Nick Meritt, Justin Noftle, Jesharelah (Shay) Lorette, Danielle Browne, Thomas Young, Robert Broccolo, and Germaine Nelson, collectively representing a diverse range of plumbing and building expertise from across North America.

Ambassador Fest, which took place June 8-9 at the Oatey University training facility, featured opportunities for participants to learn about Oatey’s company and products, as well as to share their perspectives and insights from the field. Among the training experiences provided were solvent welding training, an in-depth product expo with Oatey product managers, and tours of Oatey’s manufacturing and distribution facilities. Ambassadors also participated in product feedback discussions, a product ideation competition and the first-ever Ambassador Olympics event, a hands-on application competition. At a meet-and-greet at the company’s headquarters, Ambassadors were spotlighted in a panel discussion and enjoyed networking conversations with Oatey associates. The Ambassadors also helped cheer the Cleveland Guardians to victory on Thursday evening.

Colin Luttrell, sole proprietor of ColinThePlumberLLC in Rochester, N.Y., joined Oatey’s Ambassador Program in January after following other Ambassadors on social media for years. During his first-ever visit to Cleveland, he says he was blown away by the Ambassador Fest experience. “Oatey’s Ambassador Fest is a once-in-a-lifetime trip,” said Luttrell. “After watching all these wonderful people online for years, being able to meet them in person and experience Oatey University first-hand was something I’ll never forget. I can’t say enough about the Oatey staff – their passion for what they do is what makes it so awesome.”

In contrast, this was the third Ambassador Fest for Danielle Browne, a 17-year industry veteran from St. Johns, Newfoundland in Canada, who is better known as “Twig” or “the littlest plumber” within the plumbing social media community. According to Browne, who was a member of Oatey’s inaugural class of Ambassadors, this year’s event was the most robust and engaging yet. “I have been honored to attend Ambassador Fest every year since 2021, and each year I learn more, build more meaningful connections and leave more inspired than ever about my craft. I’ve never encountered a brand more committed than Oatey to supporting the trades, and I am so grateful for the opportunity to represent them as an Ambassador.”

For the Oatey team, the feeling is mutual. “It was our privilege to host our Ambassadors in Cleveland for Ambassador Fest,” said Katherine Lehtinen, Senior Vice President, Brand and Digital Marketing at Oatey. “Oatey is committed to supporting our end users and the skilled trades, and it is our hope that Ambassador Fest and our overall Ambassador Program help our Ambassadors continue to grow, advance and find opportunities, just as they help us to do so.”

The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) inducted Ed Brady, President and CEO of Home Builders Institute (HBI), and 2016 NAHB Chairman, into its National Housing Hall of Fame during the association’s spring leadership meeting this week.

The National Housing Hall of Fame recognizes individuals whose spirit, ingenuity and determination have changed the nation’s housing for the better, making the United States one of the best housed nations in the world.

“Ed has dedicated much of his life to making lasting and meaningful contributions to the housing industry, and he continues to make an impact with helping grow the next generation of the building industry,” said NAHB Chairman Alicia Huey, a custom home builder and developer from Birmingham, Ala. “It is an honor to induct him into the National Housing Hall of Fame for his leadership and irreplaceable contributions to our industry.”

Since 2018, Brady has led HBI, a national nonprofit that trains diverse populations, including veterans, transitioning military, high school students and justice-involved youth and adults, and displaced and upskilled adults for careers in the building industry.

A second-generation home builder from Bloomington, Illinois, Brady learned carpentry from a union master carpenter in college and started building houses in 1988. During Brady’s 30+ years in the industry, he has advocated for and defended the building industry through leadership positions at the local, state and national levels. He has served 14 years as independent director of the Chicago Federal Home Loan Bank, working with leading experts to advance the nation’s housing finance policy. He served as 2016 Chairman of the National Association of Home Builders.

“Advancing the residential building industry and advocating for careers in the trades has been my life’s work. It is an incredible honor to be recognized through this induction into the National Housing Hall of Fame and join the ranks of those before me who have inspired me throughout my career,” says Ed Brady.

After the housing crisis, Brady spent three years on the Bipartisan Policy Center Housing Commission. He has also served on boards for Illinois Habitat for Humanity, and on other economic development and housing-related boards. Currently, Brady serves as a board member for Enterprise Community Partners.

The National Housing Hall of Fame was established in 1976 and honors builders, developers, architects, financiers, land planners and government administrators who have made major contributions to the housing industry. Hall of Fame honorees are selected by the National Housing Center Board of Governors.

Other Housing Hall of Fame inductees this year include Tom Woods, Stillman Knight, Granger MacDonald and Dwight Schar.
