Jay Wade, president of Mechanical Systems & Services, LLC, Morgantown, W.V., is always on the lookout for new business opportunities. The business plan and goal of Wade—and Mechanical Systems & Services—is to focus on hydronics, design/build HVAC and plumbing, direct digital controls (DDC) controls, and whatever unique challenges arise that meet his his skill set and his company’s core competencies. “We are generally doing the things other small contractors would shy away from,” says Wade.

When the Canaan Valley Resort, Davis, W.V., called inquiring about its pool filtration system that was in a state of disrepair, Wade jumped at the chance to investigate, diagnose and remedy the aging system. What he found was old, ineffective and inefficient equipment, and complete pool filtration retrofit was the answer.

The new installation consisted of a Paddock Horizontal sand filter, ProMinent chemical control system. Wade utilized a VFD for the control of the new Pentair pump, which is set up for two speed operation to allow them ease of backwashing the filter.  All piping is schedule 80 PVC. “We finished a pool filter room rehab today; something different to put on the project list,” says Wade.
