Xylem’s Larry Konopacz to Share Pump Selection Expertise 2013 ASRAE Winter Meeting

Morton Grove, Ill. — Larry Konopacz, manager of training and education for the Bell & Gossett® Little Red Schoolhouse® will join other leading industry experts in presenting the “Fundamentals of Pump Selection and Control” seminar on January 27 at the 2013 ASHRAE Winter Conference in Dallas.

The “Fundamentals of Pump Selection and Control” seminar is designed to provide a quick review of common centrifugal pump types installed in HVAC systems and how they are selected, operated and controlled. Konopacz will focus on pump selection for open and closed loop systems and discuss how to construct a system, the importance of an accurate system analysis and the impact it has on proper pump selection.

Other elements of the presentation will include:
• Explaining the difference between static pressure and differential pressure and the related systems curves
• Demonstrating the importance of dealing with vapor pressure and avoiding cavitation in the pump
• Describing methods to select and size pumps running in parallel for a certain duty point
• Konopacz is a LEED AP and has a wealth of industry experience having served in a variety of training, engineering and manufacturing capacities at Bell & Gossett during the past 29 years. He is also a certified VBLSS Black Belt and Lean Master. He earned BS and MS degrees in Industrial Technology at Western Illinois University, and an MBA in Managerial Accounting at DePaul University. He is a member of ASHRAE, the Hydraulic Institute, ASPE, and the USGBC.

The seminar is Sunday, January 27, 8:00 – 9:30 AM, at the Dallas Sheraton, room “Dallas C.”
