The sights of 2014 ASPE Convention & Expo

Although I don’t have the official attendance numbers of this past week’s ASPE Show in Chicago, the majority of exhibitors I spoke with were extremely pleased with the turnout and qualified leads they were getting. ASPE, or the American Society of Plumbing Engineers, celebrated its 50th anniversary, and it’s the only industry event designed to showcase innovations in plumbing system design—where plumbing engineers, designers, specifiers, and contractors can learn about the latest plumbing products, services, and design techniques. In addition, one could earn a year’s worth of CEUs for CPD recertification or other licensing requirements. (One could earn up to 19.25 hours of continuing education as, well as learn about amazing new technologies and products in the plumbing industry.) Hall of Fame Chicago Bears defensive tackle/end, Dan Hampton, who was pivotal in the Bears’ Super Bowl run in 1985, kicked off the event as the keynote speaker.

Here are some of the sights of the Show:

The Hub’s Eric Aune speaks with Viega’s Derek Bower (r) about the company’s water quality campaign, a domestic and global initiative aimed at educating the industry and providing system solutions to promote water quality and hygiene for commercial potable water systems. Viega also offers a number of innovative product solutions to address water quality issues, including the new double drop elbows and Venturi press inserts, as well as existing systems like Viega SmartLoop™ for commercial systems. Combining these product solutions with design strategies like recirculation, plumbing fixtures to minimize stagnation and reducing dead legs can make conditions within the plumbing system less favorable for microbial colonization.
