Ashland City, Tenn. — For the first time in the history of the State Water Heaters brand, the State logo crossed the finish line as a winner in NASCAR competition.

At Indianapolis Motorspeedway in Indianapolis, Indiana on July 28, 2013.

State served as an associate sponsor on Ryan Newman’s No. 39 Chevrolet SS at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.  Newman secured victory for the Quicken Loans and State sponsored Stewart-Haas Racing entry at last weekend’s 20th annual Brickyard 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race.

“State Water Heaters is thrilled to congratulate Ryan Newman and everyone at SHR on the victory at the Brickyard,” said Jeff Storie, State Water Heaters senior marketing manager. “Being part of a winning team is an exciting way to get people to notice and celebrate the State brand.”

Newman kicked off the weekend by setting the track record during qualifying on Saturday, completing the 2.5-mile loop in just 47.992 seconds at an average of 187.531 mph. On Sunday, Newman led the pack four times for 48 laps, ultimately securing his first win of the season and his first win at Indianapolis.

“Without great partners like State Water Heaters, none of this would have been possible. Starting on the pole and winning the Brickyard 400 was just an awesome day for us,” Newman observed. “Matt Borland (crew chief) made an awesome call to take two tires at the end of the race. I’ve won more races with him on old tires and out of gas than I have with four tires and the best car. I’ve got to thank Tony Stewart and everybody at Stewart-Haas Racing for all of their hard work. This is a dream come true for me.”

The Brickyard win marks Newman’s 17th career Sprint Cup victory. This is Newman’s first victory since April 2012 at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway. Newman will return to Martinsville in October in the No. 39 State Water Heaters racecar.
Newman’s next Sprint Cup race is the GoBowling.com 400 on Sunday, Aug. 4, at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway.
