Petroleum industry gathers at Hershey, PA

The Pennsylvania Petroleum Association (PPA) and the Empire State Energy Association (ESEA) held their Convention, Trade Show, and Annual Meeting from September 24-26, 2014 at Hershey® Lodge. In addition to networking opportunities, the extensive program featured industry experts, politicians, and celebrities.
FUELThe Convention began on Wednesday with a golf tournament at Hershey Country Club, where 87 participants gathered for a day of friendly competition and good times. The excitement continued into the evening with a reception that opened the trade show, which was brimming with interesting products and emerging technology.

The education program began early on Thursday with remarks from Pennsylvania Lieutenant Governor Jim Cawley. OPIS’s Ben Brockwell gave an update on the State of the Oil Industry. Political Analyst, Dr. G. Terry Madonna, discussed PA’s opinions on government, politics, and energy. Nate R. Sannes, of Federated Mutual Insurance Co., talked about healthcare programs and risk management. And AccuWeather’s Senior Meteorologist, Bob Smerbeck, shared insights about the risks and opportunities for the 2014-15 weather/energy forecast.

Congressman Glenn Thompson spoke at the President’s Reception. Attendees then gathered for a banquet featuring former NFL star and ESPN Analyst, Merril Hoge. Hoge shared his inspiring story of tenacity in the face of adversity. His “Find a Way” philosophy has helped him attain his career goals, as well as face the challenge of surviving cancer.

Friday began with the PPA Breakfast. There was a panel discussion and industry update on federal- and state issues, featuring Robert S. Bassman (Managing Partner at Bassman, Mitchell & Alfano, Chtd.), Brett Doyle (Legislative Assistant, US Senator Pat Toomey), Steven Kelly (Press Secretary, US Senator Pat Toomey), John V. Kulik (PPA Executive Vice President), and Rob Underwood (PMAA Director of Congressional Regulations).
