ICC-ES Issues New EPA Seal and Insulate with ENERGY STAR® Certifications to BASF Corporation

The ICC Evaluation Service (ICC-ES), a recognized Certification Body for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Seal and Insulate with ENERGY STAR® program, has issued two EPA certification supplements to BASF Corporation. The products that have been issued the Energy Star certification are Enertite® US and Enertite®  NM Open-Cell Spray Polyurethane Foam Insulations (ESR-3102) and BASF Corporation Spray-Applied Insulations: Spraytite® (158, 178, 81205 and 81206); Comfort Foam® (158 and 178); and Walltite® (US and US-N) (ESR-2642). BASF Corporation’s ESR-3102 and ESR-2642 also include supplements to the California Building Code, California Residential Code and the Florida Building Code.

“Evaluation to the requirements of the International Residential Code® (IRC), International Energy Conservation Code® (IECC) and the EPA Seal and Insulate with ENERGY STAR® Program provides code officials the confidence to approve a product’s use for residential construction and code compliance,” said Steven R. Thorsell, AIA, CSI, Director of ICC-ES Environmental Programs. “We are pleased to assist BASF Corporation based on the EPA requirements and honored to be a recognized EPA certification body.”

The EPA Seal and Insulate Program requires independent, third-party testing and certification by technical evaluation providers such as ICC-ES. Certification addresses thermal resistance and surface-burning characteristics that establishes compliance with the IRC and IECC requirements. Certification also includes installation instructions and diagrams. The program applies to insulation intended for use in whole wall, ceiling, roof deck and floor systems sold in the United States for residential construction use.

“Securing a ‘Seal and Insulate’ Certification from ICC-ES and the U.S. EPA is yet another demonstration of BASF’s commitment to residential energy efficiency and building safety through providing high quality products that enjoy multiple, independent performance credentials,” said Eric Banks, BASF Technical Specialist – Testing, Approvals & Certifications. “EPA’s recognition of the performance provided by our spray polyurethane foam insulation products is a welcomed addition to our portfolio.”

All existing ICC-ES report holders with recognition under the 2009 or 2012 IRC and IECC, and future applicants for reports under those codes, are eligible to apply for product evaluation in the Seal and Insulate with ENERGY STAR® Program. ICC-ES also offers the option of obtaining a Seal and Insulate certification separately. Those who are interested in obtaining certification should contact ICC-ES for more information.
