Kansas City, Mo. — Behind the scenes at the Kansas City Royals’ Kauffman Stadium, newly installed Grundfos pumps power the stadium’s signature fountains while dramatically reducing energy consumption.

Named the “Official Pump and Pump Systems Provider for the Kansas City Royals” in 2012, Grundfos supplied the stadium with 18 state-of-the-art pumps that together save the Royals between $50,000 and $65,000 in energy costs each year.

“The Royals are extremely excited to continue our partnership with Grundfos,” said Bob Rice, Royals Vice President of Ballpark Operations and Development. “The newly installed high-performance pumps will reduce our environmental impact and save us hundreds of thousands of dollars throughout their lifetime.”

Thirteen of the pumps are used to run the water displays, pumping more than 1,000 gallons of water per minute up to 125 feet into the air. The pumps are connected with the sound effects, lighting and fireworks to provide fans with a multi-sensory experience.

Meanwhile, five additional Grundfos SP pumps each move 800 gallons of treated water to heights of 60 feet to create a stunning waterfall effect. The Grundfos pumps are made of stainless steel to prevent rusting and ensure low maintenance and reliable power. Most importantly, variable frequency drives allow the pumps to use only the optimum amount of energy at all times.

“Our relationship with the Royals combines two of our core Grundfos values – partnership and sustainability. In addition to manufacturing products that help preserve natural resources, we also strive to take an active role in the society around us,” said Dennis Wierzbicki, president of Grundfos USA. “We couldn’t be more proud to play a role in making Kauffman Stadium one of the more environmentally friendly facilities in sports.”
