EPA promotes 'Fix A Leak' Week

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) fifth annual Fix A Leak Week — starting March 18, 2013 — is a time for WaterSense® and its partners to remind consumers to find and fix household leaks. This year, the program is promoting the “power of 10;” by taking just 10 minutes to check for leaks, homeowners can save more than 10,000 gallons of water (equivalent to the amount it takes to wash 10 months worth of laundry) and as much as 10 percent on their utility bills.

Across the country, WaterSense partners are promoting Fix a Leak Week in a variety of ways: holding race events, hosting leak-fixing workshops, sponsoring student leak detectives, swapping showerheads for WaterSense labeled models, and much more. To kick off the week on its social media network, WaterSense is inviting companies, organizations, and individuals to join the Fix a Leak Week Twitter party on Monday, March 18, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Eastern. To join the conversation, tweet using the hashtag #fixaleak, and follow @EPAwatersense throughout the week for highlights of partner activities nationwide.

WaterSense partners have access to Fix a Leak Week tools such as customizable bill stuffers and postcards to spread the message to consumers, and plumbers can also promote the week with artwork, facts and tips available from EPA. To request Fix a Leak Week materials or learn more about the Twitter party, contact the WaterSense Helpline at watersense@epa.gov or (866)-987-7367.
