Daikin Magnitude™ Chillers

Daikin Magnitude WMEChiller experts at Daikin Applied know that during a power loss, every second counts in mission critical facilities like data centers and hospitals. To quickly restore cooling capacity when the power returns, the global leader in HVAC is introducing new technology advancements that enable chillers to restart and reach full load operation at world-class speeds and even maintain operation during a momentary power loss. New Daikin Magnitude™ WME chillers with RapidRestore™ make it possible for the chiller to restart 35 seconds after a power failure and reach 80% of full-load in 75 seconds, making it among the fastest centrifugal chiller reload times in the world. In the event of momentary power loss, Daikin’s RideThrough™ capability will maintain compressor rotation during the power failure. This first-of-its-kind capability permits the chiller to re-synchronize with the spinning magnetic bearing rotor and return to its pre-power loss capacity within as few as five seconds of power being restored, greatly reducing the nuisance and time delay normally associated with a momentary power failure. Daikin Magnitude chillers use oil-free technology that increases reliability and reduces maintenance. Because there are no conventional bearings, and therefore no oil management system or associated maintenance costs, the Magnitude chiller delivers a lower cost of ownership compared to conventional centrifugal chillers. Magnitude also uses HFC-134a refrigerant, with no ozone depletion potential or phase-out schedule. As a result of its higher sustainable operating efficiency and reduced maintenance, the Magnitude chiller is 40 percent more energy efficient than standard equipment, saving more than $2 million over the life of the machine. The Magnitude chiller line has been tested and International Building Code (IBC) certified for seismic installations. For critical health and public facility buildings in California, Magnitude chillers have also received the more rigorous Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD) Special Seismic Certification Pre-approval for applications up to 1.6 SDS.
