ASPE Commits Resources to Administer U.S. Technical Advisory Group on Water Reuse

Chicago — The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) recently announced the formation of ISO/TC 282 – Water Reuse, and in response, the American Society of Plumbing Engineers (ASPE) Board of Directors immediately authorized the submittal of an application to the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) for ASPE to become accredited as the Administrator of a U.S. Technical Advisory Group (TAG) responsible for developing U.S. positions on draft standards created within ISO/TC 282. The ANSI Executive Standards Council is currently reviewing the ASPE application.

“ASPE is committed to playing a key role in the development of both national and international standards related to plumbing systems,” says ASPE President William F. Hughes Jr., CPD, LEED AP, FASPE. “The ASPE Board of Directors considers the scope of ISO/TC 282 to be consistent with the mission of ASPE, and stepping forward to administer the U.S. TAG for Water Reuse is a prime example of our commitment to ensuring the development of standards that demand high-quality, efficient, and safe plumbing systems.”

ASPE is active in other water reuse and efficiency efforts through its development of proposed American National Standards on rainwater and stormwater catchment systems in collaboration with the American Rainwater Catchment Systems Association (ARCSA) and co-sponsors NSF International and the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO). ASPE also is one of several sponsoring organizations for the development of ASHRAE/ASPE/AWWA/USGBC Standard 191 covering water efficiency in buildings. Finally, ASPE is a partner in the Plumbing Efficiency Research Coalition, which is committed to conducting research that leads to water-efficient initiatives that are based on sound engineering and science.
