Arlington, Va. — The Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) applauds the introduction of H.R.4219, sponsored by Representative Robert Latta (R-Ohio), and cosponsored by Representatives Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) and Jim Matheson (D-Utah). H.R. 4219 would amend the Energy Policy and Conservation Act to provide for the recognition of voluntary certification programs for air conditioning, furnace, boiler, heat pump, and water heating products.
“AHRI applauds the leadership of Representatives Latta, Blackburn, and Matheson on a bill that will save taxpayer dollars by avoiding duplicative programs,” said Stephen Yurek, President and CEO of AHRI.
H.R. 4219 would require DOE to recognize third-party certification programs, such as AHRI’s, to verify the performance of federally covered HVACR and water heating products. In return, recognized certification bodies would provide annual reports to the Department. As a well-established and nationally respected certification body, AHRI would be in a position to help save manufacturer and taxpayer money.
